Butterfly in the Flower Garden – Thank You

Hi! Quick post with a “just for fun” card for some of my favorite CAS challenges.

I used the new Bloomtangled die (#1) to die cut a panel and then used the die cut paper as a stencil. I also created a couple of die-cut stencil/masks and did some masking to make this one-layer card.

I applied the solid butterfly mask to the card front and stenciled over it with the large cover plate stencil. Then I removed the stencil and the mask. Next, I masked off the butterfly several times, using the negative and positive butterfly die cuts to stencil the butterfly.

I used the butterfly mask and butterfly stencil to make 2 other cards.

I think that it is a lot of fun to get 3 cards for 1!

I’d better get out of my warm bed now!

Lots of things going on here today.

There’s very cold, windy, wintry weather, a special birthday and planning for our week.

There’s longer term planning to do for the coming gardening season too.

To look out of my window, you’d think that would be far away, but it’ll be here soon.

It was 10° Fahrenheit when my husband checked the temperature before we went to bed last night. He’s bringing in lots more firewood now because we’re going to be having some abnormally low temperatures this week.

Pretty soon there will be butterflies, but for now there is snow.

Thanks for stopping by!

Mixed Media Challenge + Stencil Sunday – January Mini Calendar

Hi!  I’m very happy to be here for STAMPlorations with a mixed media project for Stencil Sunday and the January Mixed Media Challenge.

Remember to add the following CHALLENGE graphic (not the Stencil Sunday Graphic) to your post in order to be eligible for the prizes each month.
The winner will receive a $15 STAMPlorations gift certificate or 2 ARTplorations stencils. And the top picks receive an ARTplorations stencil of their choice.

Here’s a mini calendar page that I made using 2 ARTplorations stencils:

img_3990_edited-1    The calendar measures approximately 6 1/4″ x 10 1/4″ or 16 x 26 cm matted.

I have a fun discount code for you! Shery, of STAMPlorations, has generously given me a code to share with you.

Use COUPON code STAMPGIRLMELISSA and receive 20% OFF at STAMPlorations!

  1. First, I created the background by heat embossing with silver embossing powder and using the ARTplorations Flourishes stencil.
  2. After the embossing powder dried, I then watercolored the embossed panel with a variety of blue-hued paints.img_4002_edited-1
  3. Next, I framed the panel in white cardstock and attached it to a blue cardstock panel. (I used some super dark blue cardstock that I bought at a lovely shop in my mother’s hometown of Dunoon, Scotland. Valerie, of Coleman Cards & Crafts, keeps a great selection of lovely heavyweight cardstock in her store.)
  4. I added blue embossing paste through the ARTplorations Retro Circles stencil.
  5. I sponged on some silver ink to soften the bright blue embossing paste. img_3993_edited-1
  6. I designed the little calendar as a word document and printed it onto white cardstock. It measures about 4″ x 2 1/4″ or 4 cm x 5.75 cm.img_4001_edited-1
  7. I inked the edges of the calendar by swiping it across a silver and then a blue ink pad.
  8. I added some doodled circles in blue and silver gel pen.
  9. I also outlined the letters and numbers in white and silver gel pen and I attached the calendar the background panel with foam tape.               img_3996_edited-1

I had a lot of fun creating this January calendar page and I hope that you have been inspired to create your own mixed media projects! I’d be very glad to have you join us for the mixed media challenge this month. I’m so excited to be here with you and I can’t wait to see what you make!

Please remember that this is not a card challenge…it’s anything BUT a card.  🙂

To be sure that you’re eligible for the prizes each month, please create a mixed media project, add a link to the challenge and also remember to show the Mixed Media challenge graphic. Please check out what the rest of the design team has made here.

Thanks for stopping by!

Grace & Peace,
