The Mixed Media Card Challenge #18 – Celebration, Final Reminder Post III

Hi! Thank you for spending some of your time to visit me. 🙂 I’m very happy to be here today with two cards for The Mixed Media Card Challenge!

The Mixed Media Card Challenge

Here’s our December Challenge Graphic:

I had a lot of fun making the 2 cards in this post. I’d like to play this first card at  Word Art Wednesday’s Challenge #214/215:Anything Goes.

Slide29

How I made Card #1 (#7 in the series):

  1.  Sketched and painted the holly and then printed it onto card stock.Slide12

    Slide26

    2. Added paint, marker, white Craft pigment ink, white gel pen, and black pen to the leaves. Slide33

    3. Hand embossed the berries and leaves. (Similar to 1-layer Paper Tole, but without any cutting.)

    Slide34

It was very difficult to photograph this, but I love the result. My kids keep wanting to run their fingers over the card. I do too. 🙂 Have you ever used the 1-layer paper tole technique? There is a super TUTORIAL BY DIANE at SCS over here: Go here to check it out!

    4. Added Glossy Accents to berries. (You can see how nice and sparkly the berries are in the photo above – 2 up from here.)

    Slide35

    5. Heat embossed the sentiment onto vellum in black.

    6. Assembled the card.

    Slide28

Card #8 in the series:    Slide67I’d like to play this card at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog’s Theme: Winter Wonderland. Slide19

Merry Christmas!

The Mixed Media Card Challenge #18 – Celebration

Slide25I started this card by doing a sketch/watercolor painting of some holly which I had picked from my yard. For the second card I also made a stencil! 🙂

Card #1 – The original water color:

How I made this card:

  1. Sketched the holly with pencil on water-color paper. Slide12(Sorry I did not take a photo of the uncolored sketch.) Here’s a photo from a different holly sketch that I did. IMG_1071editedIf you are interested you can click on this photo to be taken to a post about the card I made with it. I like to do a rough tracing of leaves, flowers, branches etc. and then sketch in more details while looking at the plant.
  2. Water colored the sketch. I used these: 3. Traced the leaves and stem with a silver gel pen.
  3. Added Glossy Accents to berries and let dry.Slide13
  4. Applied VersaMark ink to edges of leaves with a marker.Slide15
  5. Heat embossed leaves with white EP.Slide5
  6. Stamped sentiment.
  7. Assembled panels onto card base.

    Slide17

I also scanned the painting into my computer and printed out several copies in order to be able to play with this image. I wanted to be able to render it in multiple different mixed media ways. I’d like to play this first card at Word Art Wednesday’s Challenge #211 : Anything Goes and Emerald Creek Dares: Bringing Bits of Cheer.Slide26

Card#2 – I used 1 of the printed images with a home made stenciled background:Slide22

I’d like to play this card at Christmas Card Throwdown’s: PICK A PREVIOUS 2015 CHALLENGE.

I chose  the August Color Challenge – Tradional Red & Green.

How I made Card #2:

  1. After scanning and saving it as a PDF, I printed out the image.
  2. I added paint, marker & Stickles to the holly.

Slide133. I fussy cut the image out. IMG_1310edited

4. Using the negative from the fussy cutting as a stencil, I sponged various green inks as well as silver ink onto the card base. IMG_1306editedIMG_1308editedIMG_1305edited

5. I traced some of the leaves in white gel pen. I also embellished the back side of this card. Slide23

6. The sentiment is heat embossed in white.

Slide24

Do you embellish the insides or backs of your cards? I enjoy doing it very much! 🙂 I’d like to play this second card over at Virginia’s View Challenge #21: All About Glitter.

Slide12

Here are some of the works in progress. I also printed 2 of the images on VELLUM, which is the optional element for this month’s challenge. Please come back on Tuesday, December 8th to see 1 of the cards I made with the vellum.Slide18

Please check back at The Mixed Media Card Challenge Blog on the 8th, 15th and 22nd of December for some more cards that I’ve made with this image.

More Pretty Leaves

Hello & welcome. I have 4 leaf print cards to share with you today.Slide08I have been enjoying using REAL LEAVES to stamp with recently. There is so much beauty in creation and I find it fun & challenging to try and capture a little bit of it on paper.

Slide01

So, yesterday I inked up some leaves from my yard with some Craft/white ink and/or with red & yellow re-inkers and 3 different Stickles colors (which added some texture to this first card) and then stamped with them.  I’m very happy with how these cards turned out.

Slide02I’d like to play this card at Virginia’s View Challenge #20 and SSS Monday: Thanks/Thankful.

Slide03

I love how nature sings of God’s glory and mercy. I have also been doing some sketching recently too, trying to capture some of the beauty of creation through drawing some of the flora in my yard.

Slide1

I’d like to play this at Word Art Wednesday’s Challenge #210: Anything Goes.Slide07 Slide2

Slide04

I’d like to play this last card at CASology’s Challenge: Pretty.Slide05 Slide06

Are you interested in seeing some other leaf prints that I’ve made? Please click on the leaf print “Tag” or “Category” at the bottom of this post.

Pretty Leaf

Hi! I’m here with a quick post with a card for CAS(E) this Sketch #149 and CASology’s Week 173: Pretty.

I made a birthday card for my husband. His birthday is on the 28th. Here it is:

Slide2

I inked up a leaf from my yard with some Craft/white ink along with red & yellow re-inker inks and 3 different Stickles colors and then stamped with it. I used Happy Little Stampers’ Everyday Sentiments on this card too. I’m very happy with how this turned out. I’m also going to play this at Word Art Wednesday’s Challenge #210: Anything Goes. I stamped a bunch of different leaves today, but I’ve put those away for another time. I have an unexpected date to go on!Slide1

My husband is coming home early so we can go out for a walk. We have not had any alone time for a long while, so I’ll hide this card and go get my sneakers on.  After the month we’ve had it’s going to be good to hold his hand and walk in the woods. Well, that’s it for me for now.

Thanks for stopping by!
