The Fall 2016 Coffee Lovers Blog Hop – Circles

clbhfall2016edited

Hi! I’m very happy to have you visiting my blog today. I know your time is precious and hope that you enjoy your visit.

I’m not a coffee fan myself, but my husband likes it a lot. So, I have grown to think of coffee with a warm feeling because the smell of it means that he’s probably home. 🙂

I Love Coffee

Today I have a 3rd card to share with you that I designed with STAMPlorations products for the Fall CLBH.

img_2302edited    STAMPlorations is one of the FAll CLBH sponsors and Shery has a bunch Coffee & Tea lover themed products in her store.

Here’s a closer look at my card:img_2308edited

I love this new STAMPlorations set – Anywhere There’s Coffee Stamps & Die Set by Shery.

SheryRuss_AnywhereTheresCoffee-preview

Besides the stamps from Anywhere There’s Coffee Stamps & Die Set,  I also used the ARTplorations stencil Flourishes and STAMPlorations Big Greetings.

How I made this card:img_2304_edited-1

  1. I made the background by sponging on parts of circles through a homemade stencil.
  2. I did some reverse stenciling by inking up the flourishes stencil and stamping onto water color paper.img_2309_edited-1
  3. I then sponged orange ink through the stencil into the negative spaces.
  4. I stamped the travel coffee cup on top off the stenciled watercolor paper. SheryRuss_AnywhereTheresCoffee-preview
  5. I fussy cut the cup.
  6. I added black circles with Sharpie around the colored circles.
  7. I stamped the sentiment.img_2309edited
  8. Attached the cup with foam tape.
  9. Matted the panel.
  10. Attached the panel to the card base.img_2304_edited-1

I really enjoyed making this card and I hope that you enjoyed seeing it.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I really appreciate your visit.

Grace & Peace,
Melissa

P.S. I have a new STAMPlorations Mixed Media (two-sided mini chalkboard) tutorial up for September. 🙂

The Mixed Media Card Challenge #19 Reminder 2 – January – Beginnings

The Mixed Media Card Challenge

Hi! Thank you for spending some of your time to visit me. 🙂 I’m very happy to be here today with a reminder for The Mixed Media Card Challenge’s Challenge #19 – January – Beginnings.

Here’s our January Challenge Graphic:

The card I have to share with you today makes me happy. I salvaged a panel that I thought I had ruined and it turned into one of my favorite mixed media cards! Yay!IMG_3279edited

I have added this card to my new Mixed Media Gallery page. If you have time, I’d like to invite you to please visit it here.

How I made the card in this post:

  1. I used a embossing-paste-slathered stencil to stamp/create a print on water color paper. Here’s the card that I originally stenciled.

IMG_3141editedI used the left over embossing paste from the above card to create the beginnings of the panel in today’s post.

IMG_3304edited

2. I set the panel aside and let it dry for a few days. The embossing paste was very thick.IMG_3293edited

2. I replaced the stencil onto the panel, sponged embossing ink through the stencil and added white embossing powder.

IMG_3298edited

3. Here’s where I almost ruined the panel. I sponged black ink through the stencil and hated it!

4. So, I wiped it off with a paper towel and then heated embossed with more white ep on top of the black ink.IMG_3300edited

5. Not quite satisfied, I got out my acrylic paints and repainted a rainbow on top of the now muddied embossing paste.IMG_3301edited

6. I dabbed the paint off of the white embossed areas and reapplied the heat tool to brighten the white.IMG_3310edited

7. I die cute a square for my sentiment. That resulted in my embossing paste getting a bit squished, which was disappointing, but quite a bit of texture did remain.

What about you? Do you try to fix your mixed media boo-boos? Or do you do what I normally do with big messy mistakes? Chuck ’em?! 🙂 I am glad that I didn’t do that this time! I’m very happy with my result.

I’d like to play along at at STAMPlorations Never-ending Anything Goes Challenge, Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog’s: Best friends (Doesn’t this verse describe the kind of best friend you want to have and be?), Word Art Wednesday’s Challenge #217 Anything Goes and CASEplorations January Challenge: CASEing the incredibly talented and fun Laura Bassen.

Please stop by the challenge blog and checkout my teammate’s wonderful creations. We have quite a variety of cards for you to enjoy this month. I had a lot of messy fun making these cards.  I hope that you are inspired to play along!

Thanks for stopping by!

I used a similar technique to make this card, but made a partially die cut heart door. It opens to reveal an ink blended background and a Scripture sentiment.
