Happy Little Stampers March 2017 Mixed Media Challenge – Books

Hi! I’m very happy to be here with you today with a card for Happy Little Stampers Mixed Media Challenge.

Our  challenge:

Here’s my card.
I started this card by creating a smooshed Brushos background panel.  Then I stamped with some real leaves, inked up with green ink. I made the basic panel with the Brushos and the leaves first summer at the first HLS retreat in Swindon. I finished the card back at my house in Germany. At my house, I stamped with the large script stamp in gold metallic ink. img_4067_edited-1I traced the leaves with white gel pen and added the stamped book spine and a piece of self-made Scripture designer paper.

So!  Are you excited to join in with our Happy Little Stampers Mixed Media challenge?! I hope so. Make sure that you check out my teammates’ super creations at the challenge blog.

Thanks for stopping by!

img_3986_edited-1

The calendar measures approximately 6 1/4″ x 10 1/4″ or 16 x 26 cm matted.

  1. First, I created the heart background with the ARTplorations Hearts In Bubbles stencil with red embossing paste and then pink watercolor paint.
  2. I added gold embossing paste through the ARTplorations Chevron Crazy stencil.
  3. I matted the panel with vellum, gold foil cardstock and then pink cardstock.img_3980_edited-1
  4. I added some more hearts with the ARTplorations Hearts All Over stencil and pink embossing paste.
  5. I used the ARTplorations Dots All Over stencil to add white and silver embossing paste.img_3989_edited-1
  6. When the paste dried, I sponged on gold pigment ink.
  7. I designed the little calendar as a word document and printed it onto white cardstock. It measures about 4″ x 2 1/4″ or 4 cm x 5.75 cm.
  8. I inked the edges of the calendar by swiping it across red and then gold ink pad and added some pink dots as well and then attached it with foam tape.img_3987_edited-1I had a lot of fun creating this calendar page and I hope that you have been inspired to create your own mixed media projects! I’d be very glad to have you join us for the mixed media challenge this month. I’m so excited to be here with you and I can’t wait to see what you make!

Happy Little Stampers Watercolor Challenge – January 2017 – Stencil

Hello and Happy New Year! Welcome back to a brand new challenge! We are very excited about this challenge and are guessing that you will be too!

I’m very excited to be here with you for our inaugural HLS Watercolor Challenge.

All of our watercolor challenges will be Anything Goes with an optional twist. The only rule is that you use watercoloring or a watercolor technique on your entry. You may enter as many times as you like and you do NOT have to use HLS products to enter.

As always at Happy Little Stampers’ challenges……..we have a prize for you!

We would like to extend a huge welcome to our Guest Designer for this challenge!

Barb – Guest Designer

I have a team effort card, of sorts, to share with you today.

img_4022_edited-1

I made this card by sprinkling multiple colors of Brusho Crystal Color,

in rainbow order, on top of a stencil (the Herringbone stencil from TIM HOLTZ Mini Stencil Set #13 – Herringbone, Countdown, Blocks) placed on a panel of watercolor paper.

Then, I spritzed water on top of the stencil and the crystal colors, let it set for a few seconds, blotted with a paper towel roll and then removed the stencil. The results were very pleasing!

img_4019_edited-1Let me explain a bit about the team part. I learned about Brushos from Kylie last Summer at the HLS retreat where I made this rainbow panel.   I also CASEd Darnell’s technique and panel and borrowed the stencil I used from Kathy. Actually, Darnell also helped me to finish the panel as I was called away for some family business just as I was finishing it. Thanks, ladies!

img_4021_edited-1I added the sentiment using some stamps for STAMPlorations’ Sketchy Alphabet stamp set. First, I stamped the letters in black. Next, I colored them in with Derwent Inktense pencils and then softened the colors with a paintbrush and a bit of water.

img_4020_edited-1

Check out Kylie’s tutorial on the Brushos and stencil technique here.

My teammates and I are excited to begin this new year with a fun new monthly challenge and we sure do hope that you are going to enjoy joining in too!

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Little Stampers December 2016 Mixed Media Challenge – Anything Goes

Hi! I’m very happy to be here with you today with a card for Happy Little Stampers December Mixed Media Challenge.

Our  challenge:

Here’s my Christmas card.
img_3766_edited-3
img_3768_edited-1
I wanted to create a vintage looking card, reminiscent of my childhood memories of my parents’ Christmas trees. I used stamps from  Happy Little Stampers’ Mix Mash.
Mix Mash
I started this card by creating by stamping the chevrons in green to create a Christmas Tree and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. Then I added a Brusho Crystal Color background.img_3634edited
I used the spray starch and cling wrap/plastic kitchen wrap technique. (Kylie Purtell has several videos showing how to use this technique.)
img_3606_edited-1
The stamped and embossed “tree” resisted the Brushos nicely.
img_3617_edited-1
Next, I stamped with the circles from Mix Mash to add some ornaments and heat embossed those in silver, turquoise, and red.
img_3608_edited-1Then, to add some shine, I outlined the ornaments with a silver gel pen and added some “strings”too. I finished the pretty balls by dropping on Glossy Accents to add some dimension.

img_3607_edited-1

As you can see, I designed, and then printed, my own digital sentiments on vellum. I included a PDF of the sentiments for you to use. Please click here or on the image below to be taken to the printable version.

slide1

I added the sentiment, along with some glitter paper, to the top of the card to finish it off.

So! I hope that you have enjoyed seeing my old-fashioned Christmas card? Are you excited to join in with our Happy Little Stampers Mixed Media challenge?! I hope so. Make sure that you check out my teammates’ super creations at the challenge bog.

Thanks for stopping by!

Mixed Media Challenge + Stencil Sunday – November Mini Calendar

Hi!  I’m very happy to be here for STAMPlorations with a mixed media project for Stencil Sunday and the November Mixed Media Challenge.

Remember to add the following challenge graphic to your post in order to be eligible for the prizes each month.
The winner will receive a $15 STAMPlorations gift certificate or 2 ARTplorations stencils. And the top picks receive an ARTplorations stencil of their choice.

Here’s a mini calendar page that I made using 2 ARTplorations stencils:slide4

The calendar measures approximately 5 3/4″ x 8 3/4″ or 14.5 x 22.25 cm matted.

  1. First, I created the chevron background and reverse stenciled by printing with the Chevron Crazy stencil, inked up with Brusho Crystal Colors and water.slide04
  2. After the paint dried, I applied red orange and yellow ink through the chevron stencil to fill in the negative spaces.slide03
  3. Next, I carefully applied red embossing medium through the ARTplorations Coffee Cup stencil. slide2
  4. To give the cup the raised chevron pattern, after the cup outline dried, I masked off parts of the Chevron Crazy stencil and stenciled more red embossing medium through the chevron onto the cup. slide02
  5. I added some coffee to the cup, as well as some shading and highlights around and on the cup, with a brown marker and a white liquid chalk pen.
  6. I designed the little calendar as a word document and printed it onto white cardstock. It measures about 4″ x 2 1/4″ or 4 cm x 5.75 cm.slide3
  7. I inked the edges of the calendar by swiping it across a red ink pad and attached it with foam tape.slide018. I matted the project in white card stock and mounted it on some Brusho Crystal Color tinted water color paper.

I had a lot of fun creating this calendar page and I hope that you have been inspired to create your own mixed media projects! I’d be very glad to have you join us for the mixed media challenge this month. I’m so excited to be here with you and I can’t wait to see what you make!
