Happy Little Stampers November 2016 Mixed Media Challenge – Alcohol Inks

Hi! I’m very happy to be here with you today with a card for Happy Little Stampers November Mixed Media Challenge.

Our  challenge:

slide01I started this card with a yellow card base and stamped the flowers in embossing ink and heat embossed in red.

slide02

I used Happy Little Stampers’ Doodle Flowers.

Doodled Flowers

slide03The way these flowers turned out reminds me of a book from my childhood called Andy Pandy – in the country. I used some smooshed Brusho Crystal Colors to create a background paper for the fussy cut flowers.

Have you read this before? I’ll bet some of my U.K. friends have. I love it. 🙂 I’d show you some more photos of it, but my copy is in long-term storage in Albuquerque and I’m in Germany now. 😦 You never know what you’ll miss when you put things into storage!

Anyhow, the fussy cut flower on the sentiment strip especially reminds me of an illustration of Looby Loo and some red poppies. I’d love to see that page, so if you have a copy and want to email it to me please do!

I colored in the background and the flowers with Copic and Spectrum alcohol markers.  slide04So! I hope that you have enjoyed seeing my bright flowery card on what might be a gray day in you part of the world? Are you excited to join in with our Happy Little Stampers Mixed Media challenge?!

Thanks for stopping by!

Grace & Peace,

Mixed Media Challenge + Stencil Sunday – November Mini Calendar

Hi!  I’m very happy to be here for STAMPlorations with a mixed media project for Stencil Sunday and the November Mixed Media Challenge.

Remember to add the following challenge graphic to your post in order to be eligible for the prizes each month.
The winner will receive a $15 STAMPlorations gift certificate or 2 ARTplorations stencils. And the top picks receive an ARTplorations stencil of their choice.

Here’s a mini calendar page that I made using 2 ARTplorations stencils:slide4

The calendar measures approximately 5 3/4″ x 8 3/4″ or 14.5 x 22.25 cm matted.

  1. First, I created the chevron background and reverse stenciled by printing with the Chevron Crazy stencil, inked up with Brusho Crystal Colors and water.slide04
  2. After the paint dried, I applied red orange and yellow ink through the chevron stencil to fill in the negative spaces.slide03
  3. Next, I carefully applied red embossing medium through the ARTplorations Coffee Cup stencil. slide2
  4. To give the cup the raised chevron pattern, after the cup outline dried, I masked off parts of the Chevron Crazy stencil and stenciled more red embossing medium through the chevron onto the cup. slide02
  5. I added some coffee to the cup, as well as some shading and highlights around and on the cup, with a brown marker and a white liquid chalk pen.
  6. I designed the little calendar as a word document and printed it onto white cardstock. It measures about 4″ x 2 1/4″ or 4 cm x 5.75 cm.slide3
  7. I inked the edges of the calendar by swiping it across a red ink pad and attached it with foam tape.slide018. I matted the project in white card stock and mounted it on some Brusho Crystal Color tinted water color paper.

I had a lot of fun creating this calendar page and I hope that you have been inspired to create your own mixed media projects! I’d be very glad to have you join us for the mixed media challenge this month. I’m so excited to be here with you and I can’t wait to see what you make!

Please remember that this is not a card challenge…it’s anything BUT a card.  🙂

To be sure that you’re eligible for the prizes each month, please create a mixed media project, add a link to the challenge and also remember to show the Mixed Media challenge graphic. Please check out what the rest of the design team has made here.

Thanks for stopping by!

To make this card, first, I  brushed some watercolor paints onto the back side of the leaves and stamped the solid shapes.

Next, I inked up the correct side of the leaves with red ink and stamped over the watercolor stamped leaves.

I stamped the “Thanks” multiple times and added some Smooch Spritz.
