Mask-erade Class – Day 5, Heat Embossing (Masking Patterns)

Today I have a fun and bright one-layer card to share. I’ve been taking the Mask-erade class over at Online Card Classes, which I have thoroughly enjoyed and learned a lot from.

I took my cue for this card from Laura Bassen’s where she masked a pattern with clear embossing powder. You can get a little peek at her card, bottom center.

The layout for this card  was inspired by this week’s CTS #125.

This first card was actually my 2nd attempt at this particular technique. The card below was my first attempt.

My 1rst attempt. My envelope of clear embossing powder is tainted with white embossing powder! Oh!!!!

Apparently my envelope of “Clear” embossing powder has been tainted white, WHITE embossing powder! Grrrr, all of that stamping!  My husband says that he likes the effect because you can see the bottom “hello” better.

Oh well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I like my 2nd attempt much better.

I’m pretty happy with it.

It was difficult to photograph this card, especially the bottom part.

Mask-erade Class – Day 3, Liquid Masking

Today I have a card and a mess to share with you!  I’ve been taking the Mask-erade class over at Online Card Classes, which I have thoroughly enjoyed and have learned a lot from.

I made this card with Fineline Masking Fluid. It was inspired by Jennifer’s cards from Day 3. I have used masking paper with this stamp before, but I think I like this technique just as well. I’m going to play the card over at ATSM Challenge #146 – ANYTHING GOES + DT CALL and WAW’s Challenege #185.

Below you can see my first attempt at using the masking fluid. Ugggh! Lots of coloring and ink blending wasted. I think my ink was wet and I used too much fluid on parts and then not enough on others. Then I didn’t wait long enough to do the inking or pull the fluid off. Also, I used watercolor paper. Maybe that caused a problem?

Anyhow, on to the non-flubbed up card. First I stamped the flower image in SU’s Razzleberry and then applied the masking fluid. I waited a while to make sure it was dry. Next, I did some ink blending with 3 different SU greens and a Ranger mini ink blending tool. Then, I removed the masking fluid. Phew! I didn’t mess this one up! I colored in the flower with my SU markers and stamped the sentiment and leaves. Then I trimmed the panel down and added it to a SU Bermuda Bay card base.

I was thinking of my family when I made this card. This was a tough week at my house. We received some very disappointing news from my husband’s work – his retirement was disapproved. I’m choosing to trust God, I know that

He’s with us and has better plans for us than I could ever ask for or imagine. I will praise God for His goodness and faithfulness even when I am sad and I will walk by faith, not by sight.

This week, 28 May, my husband and I celebrated 21 years of marriage. We’ve been together since we were 16 – fast approaching 30 years. He’s my best friend and an incredibly patient and loving husband. Yesterday, he brought the bouquet below because “it’s still our anniversary week” :).
